28 Sep DIVERSITY. EQUALITY. UNITY
Are you a woman who has faced inequality during any point in life? Although Asia has experienced unprecedented prosperity, progress in gender equality has been disparate. In some parts, women have the liberty to pursue their dreams, receive education, and work outside their homes. Sadly, our region is not homogenous and plenty of women fight for their basic rights, such as access to education or even freedom of speech! While most of us might have a hard time believing, such women exist in Bangladesh.
More than 35 million living in Bangladesh are plagued with poverty mainly because women are not allowed to work. Limiting women to household work has made the society vulnerable to poverty and whats even more troubling is the fact that women are not given equal status in their household too. Such women are subjected to domestic abuse but unfortunately do not have an option to escape the toxic environment. In Bangladesh, social and religious pressure has restricted women to take employment opportunities in order to restore socio-economic balance .
It is about time we raise a voice favoring all the helpless women and be their support in this time of need. Our #EmpowerWomen campaign aims to provide employment opportunities at their doorstep in order to help generate revenue for their families. With your donations, we provide women with sewing machines which allows them to create products such as clothes. Their work is further sold to the general public and the income generated is used to feed their families. Our campaign will not only help reduce poverty but will instill a sense of independence in women, making them headstrong. Employment opportunities will help break barriers caused by gender inequality while reducing the economic burden on families. The Holy Prophet ( صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) exclaimed:
“Treat women well, for they have been created from a rib. The rib is most curved in its upper part, so that if you try to straighten it out, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain intact. Therefore, follow my advice on giving fair treatment to women” (Sahih Bukhari, Kitab An-Nikah)
HOW CAN YOU HELP
Our work does not end here! We need your help; all the struggling women need your help. It is time females are applauded and given equal opportunities. You can donate now through our #EmpowerWomen campaign initiative and provide every woman out there with sewing machines. All these hard-working women need your help. Be part of the change!
